I had a patient in the clinic who really did not want an abortion but who had no resources to cover the costs of prenatal care or childbirth. She was single and without insurance coverage but made just enough money to be ineligible for state assistance. She already had outstanding bills at the hospital and with the local ob-gyn practice. No doctor would see her without payment up front.
We were willing to do the abortion for a reduced rate or for free if necessary. But she really didn’t want an abortion. Once I understood her situation, I went to the phone and called the local ‘crisis pregnancy center.’
"Hello, this is Dr. Wicklund."
Dead silence. I might as well have said I was Satan.
"Hello?" I said again. "This is Dr. Wicklund."
"Hello," very tentatively, followed by another long silence.
"I need help with a patient," I said. She came to me for an abortion, but really doesn’t want one. What she really needs is someone to do her prenatal care and birth for free."
"What do you expect us to do?"
I let that hang for a minute.
This Common Secret, Susan Wicklund
Crisis Pregnancy Centers often disguise themselves as medical facilities, with advertisements offering “help” with an unplanned pregnancy. Their main goal is to keep the pregnant person from having an abortion at all costs. Usually, all they’ll give you is a free pregnancy test, some baby clothes, and maybe a box of diapers.
The patient referred to in the quote was given free prenatal care and did not have to pay the financial cost of childbirth by a local anti-choice doctor. She would often stop by Dr. Wicklund’s office to let her know how she was doing:
"He always moans and groans about being tricked into [doing this]," she says. "Then he goes off on these tirades against abortion."
This Common Secret is a good and short book to read that really drives home how anti-choicers behave. The people… they are not good people.
Of note: Dr. Wicklund is a cousin of mine and also was married to a family member of a family I grew up close with. She’s one of the women in the group of local women who raised me and inspired my feminism.

"This has been my morning dance. Morning Thor Dance. There you go. That’s the much I can do when I’m dancing, I can’t do a big spin. My moves are all in my feet, so my feet do the dancing."

Anita Sarkeesian (female) sent many death threats to herself. But she isnt a video gamer, so your point still might be a valid.
You are literally too stupid to insult.
Translation: I can’t disprove that so you’re stupid.
I can’t disprove that unicorns are real, but that doesn’t make them exist. I know I shouldn’t feed the trolls, but hell, I’ve got a bit of time to kill.
Gamergate is a hate movement that started with a jilted ex of a game dev accusing her of sleeping with a journalist for a good review, when said journalist never reviewed the game in question at all.
Anita Sarkeesian and Brianna Wu have been driven from their homes by death threats and harassment. #Gamergate as a whole has been revealed as a concentrated, concerted effort to harass Zoe Quinn by the aforementioned jilted ex.
And over what? Feminism in video game journalism? Less than half a percent of articles written about video games contain explicit references to sexism, misogyny, or feminism. Every major art form is analyzed in sociopolitical lights. Every major everything is analyzed that way. It’s what criticism is. Feminist criticism is an accepted academic method of analyzing media that has been in use since the late 1700s.
Even if it wasn’t, these people are essentially getting angry about discussions about women having more egalitarian portrayals in games. That’s literally it. Their biggest rallying cry is that men who play games are being shoved into the margins despite being gaming’s core target demographic. Except they fail to notice that adult women are the largest demographic in gaming, and even if they weren’t, it’s not oppressive to be asked to maybe not use women as sex objects in games. It’s not oppressive for some things not to be about men and their entertainment.
The threats made against Sarkeesian are credible, and the FBI agrees with me on that one. She isn’t the only one to receive credible death and rape threats recently (or in the past) and she won’t be the last.
I suspect you’re not the type who actually cares about facts, however. I suspect you’re one of the people who urge us to “look at both sides” of the issue, but honestly? When one side sends death, rape, and bomb threats, and the other wants women not to be treated as shitty by the gaming industry as they are, that’s not a debate I’m willing to have.
By the way, humanism is the belief that people have the ability to act ethically without the assistance of theism or supernatural belief. If you want a belief system that’s about ensuring men and women have equal rights and opportunities, that’s feminism.
As usual, Republicans hate facts and live in a totally different reality from us.
Arguably the most important scene in the episode, because I think it says something basic about Korra’s personality that’s easy to forget now when she’s at her lowest.
Korra loves bending.
She really, really does. This is the girl who walks into Republic City and goes toe to toe with bad guys in her spare time. The girl who learns about a new style of Earthbending from a no-named boy, says “woah cool!”, and jumps right into it. Who joins a probending team and, in one instance, single-handedly annihilates her competition. Who plays dirty in airscooter competitions. Who uses airbending to play fetch with her polar bear dog. Who thinks bending is fun.
After everything she’s been through, Korra’s sort of lost sight of the joy she used to get from a challenge- the joy she used to get from using her own strength and standing on her own two feet and facing an opponent head on. Here, though? We get to see that playful, determined side of her again.
At her core, she’s still the same girl she was. She just needs to rediscover the love she has for what she does.
As a paranormal/horror blogger I can assure you these child abuse ads are the most scariest and saddest thing I’ve ever seen. Probably because things like that are happening RIGHT NOW at this very INSTANT.
And it’s horrifying but hopefully these ads bring more attention towards it.
I got these from this buzzfeed article. You can view more ads and the sources for these ads there as well.
The girl in the hands dress just completely fucked me up..
